Data Analyst – Technology, Media and Society

Are you passionate about technology’s impact on society and democracy? Do you have experience working in a start-up or tech environment? If so, we are looking for a Data Analyst to join our team at Gözlemevi – Turkey’s Observatory.

As a Data Analyst, you will work at the intersection of technology and society, helping us to identify and analyze the impact of technology on democracy and human rights. You will be responsible for cleaning and analyzing data, explaining methodology, finding gaps in methodological mistakes, and producing reports with contextual information. You should be able to work efficiently under tight deadlines and have excellent communication skills to explain data analysis to a non-technical audience.

At Gözlemevi – Turkey’s Observatory, we are dedicated to promoting human rights and democracy in the digital. We conduct capacity building activities for journalists through our flagship algorithmic empowerment program and generate insights about issues intersecting technology and democracies.

To be successful in this role, you must have a strong background in data analysis, experience working with management, and be able to work in a fast-paced environment. You must be hard-working, organized, and passionate about making a positive impact through your work.

Responsibilities:

  • Collect, clean, and analyze data related to technology’s impact on society and democracy.
  • Develop and maintain data analysis pipelines and tools.
  • Identify gaps in methodological mistakes and explain the methodology of data analysis.
  • Produce reports that explain how data analysis was made to a non-technical audience.
  • Collaborate with other team members to interpret data and provide insights into the impact of technology on society and democracy.
  • Work closely with management to provide timely and accurate reports.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related fields.
  • At least 3 years of experience in data analysis, preferably in a start-up or tech environment.
  • Strong experience in cleaning and analyzing data, and explaining methodology.
  • Excellent communication skills to explain data analysis to a non-technical audience.
  • A passion for technology’s impact on society and democracy, and an interest in learning more about the societal implications of technology.
  • Strong business experience in the private sector is a plus.
  • Ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in English and Turkish.
