Editor In Chief - Technology, Media and Society

We are seeking a Chief Editor who will lead our editorial team and oversee all editorial operations to ensure that our content meets accuracy and editorial standards. The ideal candidate must have at least 5 years of experience as an editor and have experience leading editorial teams. The Chief Editor will play a critical role in communicating complex topics to various audiences and contributing to the growth of the editorial team. The candidate should not apply if they have not led editorial teams before.

At Gözlemevi - Turkey's Observatory, we are a responsible technology organization dedicated to promoting freedoms and democracy in the digital era. Our flagship program, Algorithmic Empowerment, helps journalists enhance their skills to report on issues related to technology and democracy.

Lead and manage a team of editors and researchers to produce high-quality content that meets our editorial standards and aligns with our mission of promoting freedoms and democracy in the digital era.

Develop and implement editorial strategies to ensure that our content is accessible and understandable to our target audiences.

Collaborate with other teams, such as the algorithmic empowerment team, to ensure that our content is accurate and informative.

Conduct regular training and coaching sessions for the editorial team to enhance their skills and encourage their growth.

Oversee the editorial workflow, from ideation to publication, ensuring that the team meets deadlines and delivers high-quality content.

Ensure that all content is fact-checked, edited, and proofread before publication.

Review and edit articles, ensuring that they adhere to our editorial guidelines, tone, and style.

Work with external contributors, freelancers, and partners to ensure that their work meets our editorial standards.

Requirements:

At least 5 years of experience as an editor, with a track record of producing high-quality content.

Experience leading editorial teams, with a focus on team management and development.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to communicate complex topics to a variety of audiences.

Familiarity with issues intersecting technology and democracies is preferred.

Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and editorial standards.

Experience with content management systems and editorial workflows.

A portfolio of work samples that demonstrate your editorial expertise.
