Editor - Technology, Media and Society

Are you an editor with demonstrated interest and experience in technology, human rights and democracy? If yes, then we are looking for an Editor to join our team at Gözlemevi – Turkey’s Observatory. As an Editor, you will work alongside researchers and journalists to identify and screen news on tech, democracy, and human rights issues. You will be responsible for creating engaging and informative content that will be disseminated through various channels. Your duties will also include collaborating with researchers on edits, managing social media platforms, and handling other tasks as necessary.

At Gözlemevi – Turkey’s Observatory, we are dedicated to promoting freedoms and democracy in the digital. We conduct capacity building activities for journalists through our flagship algorithmic empowerment program and provide training related to issues intersecting technology and democracies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Journalism, Communications, or any field that will help understand how technology interacts with demoracy. A higher degree in a relevant field is preferred.
  • At least 3 years of experience in editing, preferably in a digital news environment. Experience in news analysis and data journalism is a plus.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills. You should be able to write clear, concise, and engaging content in English and Turkish. You should also have a keen eye for detail, ensuring that all content is accurate, free of errors, and adheres to the organization’s editorial guidelines.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to meet tight deadlines. You should be able to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. You should also be able to prioritize tasks effectively and meet deadlines without compromising on the quality of your work.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. You should be able to work effectively with researchers, journalists, and other members of the team, contributing to the organization’s overall goals and objectives. You should also be able to provide constructive feedback to others and be receptive to feedback on your own work.
  • Proficiency in English and Turkish. You should be fluent in both languages and be able to communicate effectively in both written and spoken forms. You should also have a strong knowledge of grammar, syntax, and punctuation in both languages.
